MIT’s SENSEable city lab did this wonderful project centered around Barcelona’s tourists. Tourist’s visits are very transitory, they leave no physical evidence of their stay. So the lab used data from flickr to map out where photos originated - this showed not only the presence of the tourists themselves, but where they went, where they came from, and what interested them. More info at the official project page. There are process photos on Flickr, with more on the process from David Lu’s portfolio. (via)
